Madelyn Simon Lozano was born in Portsmouth, Ohio.  In 1975, Ms. Lozano obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, in journalism and a Master of Arts degree, with honors, in education in 1980 – both from Kent State University (Ohio).  She received her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Miami in 1987, where she was inducted in the Order of the Coif, having graduated in the top ten percent of her class.  While in law school, she was an editor for the Inter-American Law Review.

Ms. Lozano served as senior judicial clerk to the Honorable Joseph Nesbitt, Florida Third District Court of Appeal from 1987 through 1992. She was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1987, to the United States District Court, Southern District of Florida in 1991, to the United States Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit in 1992, and to the United States Court of Appeals, Third Circuit in 2000.

Ms. Lozano focuses her practice in the areas of civil appellate practice and litigation support in both state and federal courts with an emphasis on commercial matters, construction litigation, insurance defense and general litigation support.  She is also fluent in Spanish and experienced in various aspects of Latin American law.

Ms. Lozano has served as a member of the Florida Bar Appellate Court Rules Committee and as a land commissioner in the United States District Court, Southern District of Florida East Everglades Land Acquisition Project. She is also a certified volunteer guardian ad litem in the juvenile dependency courts of the 11th Judicial Circuit for Miami-Dade County, Florida.
